So, I will tell you, but it’s going to involve a long-winded story that may or may not answer your question. Ready? Here we go.
People decide not to drink for lots of reasons: health/fitness goals, religious beliefs, addiction recovery, medical reasons (including pregnancy), not wanting to get sacked for telling your boss what you really think—the list goes on. None of these people want to sit at home by themselves on Saturday night watching reruns of Law & Order SVU (ok, some of them probably do, and tbh under certain circumstances that sounds like a pretty decent night).
I decided to kiss booze goodbye a little while ago, but I didn’t want to kiss my social life goodbye, so I still went out with my friends. Something I noticed pretty quick was just how hard it was to find a decent non-alcoholic beverage in Australia. I’m down for dancing and banter and I’m probably going to drive everyone home, but when I go to the bar the only option is a sickly-sweet lemon lime and bitters? What’s the deal?!
It may not surprise you then to learn there’s a growing movement of young people who are choosing not to drink alcohol—at least, not every time they go out and not to excess. It’s actually radical, in the truest sense of the word, to swim against the current and choose not to drink in a culture like ours that has alcohol infused in its DNA.
And that is why there is an increase in the demand for non alcoholic beers in Australia. Along with an increase in the demand for non-alcoholic gins, alcohol free ciders and non-alcoholic spirits like Seedlip or Brunswick Aces.
People are questioning and challenging dominate social norms. People are wanting to have their tastes and desires as non-drinkers taken as seriously as drinkers. And people are shaking up status quo’s around what an alcohol free drink looks like (pro tip: it’s not a glass of concentrated diabetes with a fancy umbrella. No thank you, sir. We’ve had enough).
At Club Soda Australia, our mission is to provide people with delicious alcohol-free alternatives. Stuff people will actually want to drink, not because there are no other options, but because they taste freakin’ awesome.
And this is just the beginning.
P.s. did I answer the question?
