So with the upcoming Dry July season upon us, you might be starting to think about what types of booze-free drinks you can have to get you through. And my friend, have you stumbled on a great post that will help you. I developed Club Soda because I was incredibly disappointed with the poor drink choices I had as a non-drinker so thought, why can’t there just be one place I can go to where I know the drink choices are going to be quality and are tested by someone who also doesn’t drink (that’s me * waves *). Like honestly, no I do not want to have a soft drink - I’m an adult and just because I’ve decided to stop drinking, I am no less adult. I still want to feel pamper-worthy and have a drink that is interesting and unique and unusual and instagram worthy, gosh dammit.
When I started exploring this low or non alcoholic world of products, I was so excited to see that there were others equally annoyed and disappointed with the lack of drinks available for non-drinking adults – there were Instagram pages dedicated to non-alcoholic cocktails, not just mocktails (which we don’t use as the term has such negative connotations) – and they were B E A U T I F U L.
One brand I particularly liked was Seedlip – a new non-alcoholic spirit that was from London. Then I found Brunswick Aces that is produced locally in Melbourne and is gaining momentum in Australia. These non-alcoholic gin type spirits (they aren’t gins because they don’t have juniper berries in them) are starting to gain traction in Australia due to a mixture of young Australians drinking less and increased undesirability of soft drinks as people become more and more health conscious. These factors coupled together has meant that drink manufacturers have had to become innovative in their products to ensure their bottom line is being maintained – and the manufacturers are delivering in spades. Here is my review of Seedlip and Brunswick Aces:
Seedlip Garden 108 is the second bottling from Seedlip and is a celebration of all things summer. This non-alcoholic spirit is bursting with clean, fresh flavours of spearmint, rosemary, thyme, peas and hops. Oh and it's also sugar and calorie free.
Seedlip Grove 42, this zesty bby will be your besty in no time with its three types of oranges and uplifting spice distillates. This is the third product in Seedlip's range of non-alcoholic distilled spirits and they just keep getting better and better. It has a long, dry aftertaste and is best served with tonic and a slice of orange.
Seedlip Spice 94 is the world’s first distilled non-alcoholic botanical spirit drink made in London, England. Seedlip Spice is sugar, allergen, and sweetener free, with no artificial flavours. It is a complex and aromatic blend of barks, spices and citrus peels, and is distilled using traditional methods and botanicals. Best served with tonic.
Brunswick Aces Hearts blend is inspired by spicy warm gin, leading with notes of cassia bark and ginger, beautifully balanced by sweet citrus and native Australian Wattleseed.
Brunswick Aces Spades blend is inspired by savoury fresh gin, leading with notes of green cardamom and parsley, beautifully balanced by sweet citrus and native Australian Lemon Myrtle.
Make a simple Brunswick Aces & Tonic for a refreshing summer drink or a complex non-alcoholic cocktail to make that midday lunch gathering.
Enjoy and cheers!
